Job Summary:

The youth transportation driver will primarily assist with providing services for small groups of Milwaukee high school students to and from the Boys & Girls Clubs teen Ready! Center as part of a new workforce readiness initiative. The driver will provide safe transportation for students to and from high schools to the Ready! Center, for events such as program enrollment, trainings, certification classes, guest speakers, and special events. Additional duties may include assisting with other program transportation needs as they arise. The candidate is expected to comply with all organization policies and procedures as well as State licensing requirements that apply to group childcare centers.

Responsibilities:

  • Create a safe, diverse, and welcoming environment for youth.
  • Make sure that every passenger is wearing their seat belt at all times.
  • Monitor passengers during transit for the purpose of maintaining order and ensuring the safety of passengers
  • Observe the speed limit and all road signs and signals during the task of delivering children safely to their destinations.
  • Communicates as needed with BGCGM staff and parents or guardians of youth.
  • Keep the van clean and gassed up at all times, conduct daily safety inspections of van, record the number of miles traveled, and keep any receipts that are related to the trip
  • Follow proper reporting procedures.
  • Communicate with Program Director about maintenance issues with the van.
  • Assist as a floater at the Ready! Center to help support programs and events when not driving.
  • Maintain a current understanding of procedures if an accident should occur with or without members in the van
  • Other duties as assigned by Ready! Center Area Manager

Work Conditions/Expectations:

The position is flexible around the needs of our clients including but not limited to first and second shifts during the work week with occasional weekend hours as need.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED

Experience Requirements:

  • 21 years of age with a valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
  • Candidate must be able to pass a criminal background check, drug test, and driving record check
  • Prior experience working with children—especially in relation to transportation—a plus

Driving Record Eligibility Requirements :

  • All Type A violations defined below and any combination of the following will result in termination of driving privileges for employees and/or will disqualify potential driver employees.
  • One or more “Type A” Violations in the last 5 years.
  • Three or more accidents regardless of fault in the last 5 years.
  • Three or more “Type B” Violations in the last 5 years.
  • Any combination of accidents and “Type B” violations which equal four (4) or more in the last five (5) years.

Type “A” Violations:

  • Driving while intoxicated
  • Driving with a prohibited Blood Alcohol Content (BAC)
  • Driving while under the influence of drugs
  • Negligent homicide arising out of the use of a motor vehicle
  • Operating during a period of suspension or revocation
  • Using a motor vehicle for the commission of a felony
  • Aggravated assault in a motor vehicle
  • Operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s authority
  • Permitting an unlicensed person to drive
  • Reckless driving
  • Speed contest
  • Hit and Run (injury or property damage)
  • Fleeing a police officer.

Type “B” Violations:

  • All moving violations not listed as Type A.

Driver should provide proof of insurance to Human Resources.
