About the Role

We are seeking a Bioinformatics Data Analyst to join our Biostatistics & Bioinformatics group in San Diego, US. In this role, you will support research and development initiatives by managing and analyzing complex biological datasets, applying statistical and bioinformatics methodologies, and ensuring computational rigor in compliance with FDA reporting requirements. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will generate actionable insights, develop automated workflows, and contribute to regulatory submissions, playing a key role in advancing our mission to transform medicine and improve patients’ lives.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and process data within Linux-based or cloud computing environments (e.g., AWS, MS Azure), ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
  • Write and maintain custom tools and scripts for analysis tasks using programming languages such as R, Python, Nextflow, and SQL.
  • Automate routine analyses and workflows for scalability and efficiency using bioinformatics and statistical tools (e.g., Nextflow, Snakemake).
  • Develop and apply statistical models to analyze large-scale biological datasets, ensuring accuracy and reproducibility.
  • Conduct hypothesis testing, regression analysis, multivariate modeling, and alternative methods to derive actionable insights from data.
  • Maintain and improve Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodologies to monitor laboratory processes, evaluate trends, and address nonconforming data in process and product development.
  • Ensure analytical methods and workflows comply with regulatory standards, including GLP, GAMP, ISO, and FDA requirements.
  • Prepare detailed documentation of methodologies and results for study protocols, regulatory submissions, and scientific publications.
  • Develop statistical analysis plans and reports, contributing to statistical and bioinformatics methodologies in research and process development studies.
  • Maintain and develop bioinformatics workflows for omics data processing, including RNA-seq and proteomics, using industry-standard software (e.g., HISAT2, DESeq2).
  • Perform quality control, data transformation, feature selection, and pathway enrichment analysis for high-throughput biological data.
  • Collaborate across research, manufacturing, and quality teams to foster a positive and open working environment.
  • Develop and implement interactive dashboards to facilitate data visualization, communicate insights, track trends, and support real-time team collaboration (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Other responsibilities as assigned related to bioinformatics and biostatistical analysis.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in biostatistics, bioinformatics, data science, or a related field with 1+ years of experience; or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with 5+ years of experience.
  • Experience in Linux-based HPC and/or cloud computing environments, along with associated tools (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure).
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, Nextflow, and SQL.
  • Strong understanding of statistical and mathematical methods applied to data science or computational tasks, with hands-on experience using statistical software.
  • Ability to design and implement algorithms, analyze large datasets, and develop custom software solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing detailed reports, crafting professional business emails, and delivering clear and concise presentations.
  • Proven ability to perform essential duties independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.

Preferred Skills:

  • 1+ years of industry experience, ideally in an FDA-regulated environment within pharmaceutical or biotech product development.
  • Experience in a biotech environment, preferably in GMP and/or QC settings.
  • Knowledge of modern biology and relevant research fields.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics methods, data structures, databases, and database management systems.
  • Experience with flow cytometry, functional assays, or omics data analysis (e.g., DNA, RNA, and protein analysis) might be beneficial in a broader R&D context at Capricor.

Compensation (USD): $80,000 - $120,000

  • This role offers a competitive salary based on experience and qualifications. Additional benefits include health/dental/vision insurance, paid time off, parental leave, 401k retirement plan, company stock options, and bonus eligibility.
