Network Engineer (Cisco, Data Networking)

Optomi, in partnership with a leader within the energy industry, is seeking a Network Engineer to join their growing network engineering team! In this role, the Network Engineer (Hybrid, Charlotte NC) will be responsible for the design, implementation, and support of complex enterprise data network solutions, with a focus on Cisco technologies. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in routing, switching, and TCP/IP, as well as hands-on experience with Cisco IOS and WAN technologies.

Experience of the Right Candidate:

• 5-7+ years of experience in network engineering, preferably in large enterprise environments.
• Deep expertise in Cisco Systems products including routers, switches, wireless controllers, and VPN concentrators.
• Strong command of TCP/IP, Cisco IOS, and Layer 3 networking protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, RIP, etc.
• Experience with enterprise-level routing/switching, GRE tunnels, HSRP, GLBP, IPSEC, SSL, AAA, SNMP.
• Proven ability to work cross-functionally with multiple teams, vendors, and departments.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities of the Right Candidate:

• Design, test, and implement scalable, cost-effective enterprise network solutions.
• Configure and deploy Cisco routers and switches across the infrastructure.
• Develop and maintain accurate network diagrams, documentation, and configurations for all devices.
• Create detailed engineering packages with parts lists, drawings, and implementation plans.
• Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to deliver comprehensive solutions for business needs.
• Troubleshoot and optimize WAN circuits (private and public), including procurement and deployment.
• Stay up to date on current networking technologies and provide recommendations for improvements.
• Ensure all designs meet performance, reliability, and security standards.

Nice to Have:

• Up to date Cisco certifications such as CCNA, CCDA, CCNP, CCDP, or CCIE.
• Experience with Cisco ACS, wireless LAN controllers, and advanced VPN technologies.
• Familiarity with network monitoring, automation, and security protocols.
