General Summary of Position MedStar Health is seeking a Monitor Technician to join our team at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. As a Monitor Technician, you will observe cardiac monitors to identify and document dysrhythmias and notify RNs of any critical life-threatening issues. Apply today to learn how MedStar Health can be your next great career move! Primary Duties Clinical/Technical: Monitors patients, supplies, or equipment as directed. Interprets basic dysrhythmias, calculates heart rates and EKG intervals (PR, QRS, QT). Accurately admits patients to the remote monitor station with correct identification. Uses two patient identifiers. Notifies the Primary RN of rhythm changes and documents them. Completes daily counts of monitoring equipment and documents. Transcribes patient data accurately. Documents rhythms on monitor logs and patient charts. Obtains and files monitor strips. Communication: Communicates effectively with healthcare team, patients, visitors, and customers. Answers phones per protocol. Works with Critical Care Charge RN to review monitors and patients. Maintains professional communication. Uses vocera and/or telephone to notify RNs of rhythm changes. Ensures rhythm strip documents are received each shift. Notifies of missing equipment. Reviews rhythms with physicians daily. Development: Maintains current knowledge, certifications, and licensure. Participates in training and departmental activities. Completes mandatory requirements timely. Organizational Knowledge: Collaborates across departments, participates in projects, and demonstrates professionalism in interactions. Additional Functions: Assists in collecting PI data such as length of stay, ICU returns, and discharge callbacks.
