Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Business Development Manager with proven expertise in Carbon Dioxide Removal and carbon credit markets to spearhead our investment and partnership efforts across North America, Europe, and other key regions globally . This individual will be instrumental in identifying opportunities and fostering collaborations worldwide that align with our sustainability objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Development: Support the formulation and execution of strategies to identify, assess, and engage with CDR startups, projects, and technologies across target regions. Develop comprehensive business plans to drive growth and investment in the CDR sector.
- Due Diligence: Lead thorough due diligence processes for potential investments or partnerships, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and sustainability targets . Evaluate financial viability , technological feasibility , and regulatory compliance of prospective projects.
- Carbon Credit Management: Lead the development and management of carbon credit strategies , with a strong understanding of both voluntary and compliance carbon credit mechanisms , including standards such as VCS (Verified Carbon Standard) , EU-ETS , and domestic compliance standards in the USA . Oversee the monetization of carbon credits and ensure alignment with regulatory frameworks.
- Market Analysis: Conduct and oversee in-depth market research to analyze trends and developments in both nature-based (e.g., afforestation, soil carbon sequestration) and technology-driven solutions (e.g., DACCS, BECCS). Provide actionable insights to inform strategic decisions and investment opportunities.
- Policy Understanding: Stay abreast of CDR-related policies, energy regulations, and frameworks in key markets, including the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Ensure compliance and strategic alignment with evolving regulatory landscapes.
- Relationship Building: Establish and maintain robust relationships with startups, venture capital firms, research institutions, and other key stakeholders within the CDR ecosystem. Negotiate and secure strategic partnerships to advance our corporate sustainability goals. Engage in worldwide business travel to explore opportunities, attend key events, and strengthen relationships with partners and stakeholders. Represent the company as a thought leader in CDR and carbon credit markets at industry conferences, events, and forums , elevating the company’s visibility and influence .
- Collaboration: Collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to integrate CDR initiatives into our broader corporate strategy. Foster cross-functional collaboration to drive project success and organizational alignment.
Qualifications:
- Expertise in CDR: Demonstrated expertise in the CDR sector , with a comprehensive understanding of both nature-based and technology-driven solutions . Proven track record of developing and managing successful CDR projects .
- Carbon Credit Experience: Extensive experience in carbon credit markets , including in-depth knowledge of carbon offset mechanisms , regulatory standards , and market dynamics . Familiarity with both voluntary and compliance carbon credit mechanisms , such as VCS , EU-ETS , and domestic compliance standards in the USA .
- Policy Awareness: Comprehensive knowledge of energy policies, carbon pricing , and CDR regulations in North America and Europe . Ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and ensure compliance.
- Investment Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in venture capital, private equity, corporate innovation , or carbon credits-related projects , such as working as a project developer , managing project origination, or overseeing the issuance and trading of carbon credits. Demonstrated ability to lead investment processes from sourcing to execution , including identifying opportunities, conducting due diligence, structuring deals, and managing post-investment activities. Proven success in investments within climate tech , CDR-related initiatives , or carbon markets , showcasing a strategic approach to building impactful portfolios and partnerships.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to spearhead , lead , and oversee projects and initiatives, driving them to successful outcomes .
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities , including proficiency in financial modeling , risk assessment , and due diligence .
- Strategic Thinking: Proven ability to think strategically and execute independently , while fostering collaboration within a team .
- Location: Residency in the Bay Area or nearby, with the ability to commute to San Jose at least once a week . Willingness to engage in worldwide business travel as required.
