ABOUT US: Schaumburg Park District is an award-winning parks and recreation agency that provides its 80,000 residents with a wide variety of recreational programs, classes, and events as well as facilities, parks and open spaces! Our Cultural Arts Department is home to our outstanding theatre program which hosts various productions throughout the year.

JOB SUMMARY: The Costume Designer is responsible for executing the construction of costumes, from patternmaking to sewing and fitting, ensuring a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. The Costume Designer will collaborate with the director and production team to conceptualize and create costumes that enhance the characters and story telling. They will identify and source fabrics, accessories, and other materials needed for costume construction while adhering to budget constraints. The Costume Designer will conduct fittings with actors, making necessary alterations to achieve the perfect fit and aesthetic as envisioned. They will also effectively manage time to meet deadlines and ensure costumes are ready for dress rehearsals and performances. If applicable, the costume designer will coordinate the acquisition and return of rental items.

LOCATION: Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Rd., Schaumburg

QUALIFICATIONS: Proven experience in costume design and construction for theatrical productions is required for this position. Proficiency in patternmaking, sewing, and costume construction techniques are preferred along with strong creative and artistic skills with a keen understanding of how costumes contribute to character development. Looking for a dependable industry professional with excellent communication and collaboration skills who has the ability to work within budget constraints and adapt designs based on practical considerations. We are searching for someone with passion for the performing arts and a commitment to bringing characters to life through costume.

SCHEDULING & PAY: This is an independent contracted position with a stipend of $1,700. The work schedule is flexible; however some evenings and weekends will be required leading up to the performances. This position starts in mid-May and runs through mid-July 2025.
