Job Description

Position Overview:

The Cost Accountant is responsible for maintaining and analyzing the integrity of the general ledger, inventory-related subsystems, and manufacturing data. This role plays a critical part in financial forecasting, budgeting, and profit margin analysis, supporting accurate reporting and informed pricing decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain and update the standard cost system for manufactured products.

Monitor and process manufacturing work orders into inventory, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

Review, correct, and reconcile general ledger (G/L) accounts related to inventory.

Prepare and analyze monthly gross profit reports to identify trends and support decision-making.

Develop and track operational metrics to analyze performance and profitability.

Ensure inventory-related G/L accounts are balanced with subsystem data across multiple plants.

Manage and analyze variance reserves and expenses, including purchase price variance, standard revaluation, usage variances, and overhead variances.

Coordinate the flow of G/L data through the ERP system, ensuring seamless integration.

Prepare journal entries, schedules, and reports for monthly financial close and Operating Book .

Develop monthly gross profit forecasts and contribute to annual budget preparation.

Calculate inter-company inventory elimination entries, both in dollars and units.

Process manufacturing transactions for off-site facilities and oversee data accuracy.

Audit and assist with periodic physical inventory counts at multiple locations.

Prepare audit schedules and respond to requests for internal and external audits.

Support special projects related to cost analysis, reporting improvements, or system enhancements.

Generate and distribute weekly backlog reports for management review.

Calculate monthly sales incentive payments and ensure accuracy in employee rewards.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.

2-3 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing environment with standard costing experience.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Windows-based applications.

Experience working with ERP systems; proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics ERP is a plus.

Strong organizational and communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
